MILANI Ludicrous Lights Eye Topper in PINK-AROO, LOLLAPA-BLUE-ZA & PEACH-ELLA ::: Review & Swatches!!

Talking about twinkly, sparkly eye products from Milani; it seems fitting since Diwali, the indian festivak of lights is right around the corner. 

Sometime ago, over at my instagram page, I expressed how I have been loving glittery, sparkly top coats with sheer base on top of my eyeshadow! After doing a little bit of research I landed up on these.

Availability: I got these from Ulta, they were 50% off, and I had a lot of Ulta points as well some coupon, so got a great deal on these. They are also available in Milani Website and Walmart. I do not see them in Ulta anymore.

Shades: I have the following three shades

PINK-AROO - This is described as Magenta with Blue reflects. I think it appears as more of a pink than a magenta but I definitely see the blue reflects. It is beautiful.

LOLLAPA-BLUE-ZA -This is described as Frosty Blue with purple reflects. I also see a lot of silver reflects in it. I love this shade - I think I have used this the most. 

PEACH-ELLA - This is described as Champagne Peach with gold and pink reflects. This is such a gorgeous shade. With all the all the gold and pink reflects it almost look like a multichrome! Well, almost. I love that it has a neutral undertone - I can pair them with a lot of different eyeshadows.

Formula, Quality & Staying Power: As you can see, these are very sparkly with small micro glitters! The duo chromy flip on all three of them is beautiful. On their website, it is described as a water-based formula. I find the formula to be very easy to work with. I typically swipe a little bit out on my hand and use a brush to apply the product. I do not even use glitter glue most of the time. These can be applied as a sheer eye topper as well as built up. I can also apply it on targeted areas using a small flat eyeliner brush. I love how these can be used to add a little it of a pop to my eye-looks or if I want to overly dramatic look. I also can use these to creat graphic liners. As you can see, I was able to create a varieties of looks. 

Although, as life has changed from before and I haven't really wore this out and about for full day of activities, but I do see that it lasted on me all day long. I am really happy with these 😍

Price: The retail cost for these are $10.99 but it is not that difficult to find sales for this one. 

Packaging: Simple tube, no comments on this ha ha!

URBAN DECAY Heavy Metal Glitter Liners in "Midnight Cowboy" & "Spandex"

I know everybody is talking about the new Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows from Stila Cosmetics. Touch In Sol also have some similar glitter eyeshadows that were launched a few months ago. I did a review on here, I enjoyed the shade I got. I am, however, very enamored by these Heavy Metal Glitter Liners from Urban Decay that has been around for a long time. I don’t know how, but I only came to know about these just a few months ago, when I bought Sephora Favorites “Extravagant Eyes” set (detailed review here and this set is still around on Sephora). 

If glitter annoys you because of how messy it can get or if you find the application process a bit intimidating, these are the perfect glitter product for you. They are super-duper easy to use, very convenient to travel with and are extremely sparkly. I appreciate how companies are bringing out gorgeous, easy-to-use glitter products these days but I got to hand it to Urban Decay for being a pioneer in putting the convenient factor in glitter eyeshadows.

Midnight Cowboy - just a light layer all over the lid

All the shade available in color in this Heavy Metal Glitter Liners are stunning! I am eyeing the shade “Distortion” next! If you cannot already tell, I adore these liners. Go, grab a shade that speaks to your heart, You will surely enjoy it. 

Price, Packaging and Availability: These are $20 for 0.25 oz. of products. These are very easily available on Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, Nordstrom and Urban Decay website. I think these are very reasonably priced! What I absolutely adore about this is the functionality of the product. It comes in a handy tube with a very thin, precise brush applicator. The brush makes it so easy to get a super crisp line. You can easily use it to layer over your winged liner and also to apply all over the lid.

Quality and Wear-time: simply AWESOME! These are very shiny and quite pigmented. All of these has different shades of superfine glitters on clear base so you typically need 2-3 layers to get an even application. If you like an extremely opaque glittery look covering your entire lid, these may not be your cup of tea. I actually do like that these are on clear base, it’s what gives them that sheer but very even glittery look. The glitters are not too micro but not chunky as well! That shine and sparkle of these glitters are simply extraordinary; it speaks to my soul and makes me little heart leap with joy! You know, makeup can be very joyous! :-)

They do not take much long to dry down after application. When I first apply this, it slightly tingles over my lid, just a slight irritation but it completely goes away after a few seconds.

Another thing I absolutely enjoy is the staying power. Every single time I wear it, I am amazed to see how intact are these glitters are. They stay on till I remove them at night. I do see a few fall-out on my face sometimes but it is very negligible. There is absolutely no need for any glitter glue and I can easily layer it over any kind of eyeshadow or even on bare lid. I wore “Midnight Cowboy” on my sister’s wedding reception and it lasted from about 6 pm to the next morning. I got loads of compliments and I cannot believe that it stayed put throughout the hectic, humid and crazy busy night! 

Here are the two shades I picked up –

Midnight Cowboy: I absolutely, ABSOLUTELY love this shade. For some weird reason, I love this name too! It’s a gorgeous beige-y gold shade, I swear I can see pink-ish kind of glitter too! But it is mostly gold. It is one of those shades that goes with any kind of eyeshadow color! It is very complimentary against my skin tone and also with heavy Indian dresses. I love to pack this over my entire lid for a super glamorous look; I also love to lightly layer it for a soft, chic look! I have done a few looks with this, you can check them here.

Spandex: Weird name but whatever! I am big fan of blue eyeshadows. I wear them more often than I should. When I got $10 birthday coupon from Ulta I decided to invest in this shade because of course, it is blue. This is a deep dark blue shade with some gold glitter shade as well, I am in love! It performs exactly the way “Midnight Cowboy” does.

I am enjoying these so much! I am pretty sure I am gradually going to collect a few more of these!

Go buy these! At least one shade that you think you will get the most use out of. YOU WILL DEFINITELY ENJOY THIS.

"Venom" Vice Lipstick

I also picked up this Vice Lipstick in Venom that was being offered at Sephora as Beauty Insider Rewards. It is a mini adorable size. I appreciate the fact that they kept the size similar to the full-size even though this was a free lipstick. For last few months I have been constantly talking about “Rupture” from their Revolution lipstick line which has been now discontinued. But they now launched 100 shades in few different formulae. Venom is a very deep plum shade with a lot of fuchsia in cream finish. It’s quite a creamy formula, glides on nicely and is satiny/glossy in appearance. Very opaque in one application! I love me some bold shades but this is not one of my VERY favorite shades! But I will surely wear it happily. This kind of shade looks fabulous with a clean face, good winged liner and lots of lashes. It lasted for hrs. and left an even stain!

7 Days of Glitter with Arrru ::: Day 7 "Glittery Blue Smokey Eye"

For the last look in #7DaysofGlitterwithArrru series, I am using some of my very favorite eyeshadows to re-create a look that is very dear and near to my heart! If you have been a regular reader of mine, you may know that I am a big fan of “Blue” eyeshadows. I adore them, especially deep, midnight blue hues. I would wear blue on my eyes every day, if possible.

So today, I am going for a blue smokey eye! I wore this eye-look and a fuchsia lipstick with my blue Assam Silk Mekhela-Sador for my sister’s wedding reception party. I got a lot of compliments :-), even from the makeup artist that did my sister’s makeup! That felt like a validation.

Blue is an intimidating shade to wear, no doubt! But it is not difficult; you just need to ground the look with other earthy tones. My advice is to get some good matte shades. I use browns, dark purple, black or muted orange shades. For this look I used some orange and browns. As I said before, it is an easy look. But it is a time consuming one. The more variations of eyeshadows of the same color family you use, the more depth you get for your look. I am showing two lipstick options just in case you want to focus only on the eyes.

Step-by-step approach to the eye-look:

• Start with a skin-tone shade (or may be just a shade deeper, for me its Makeup Geek Crème Brulee) to curve out your crease area.  I have a very little lid space and I have hooded eyes. So, I have to create my eyeshadows such that my crease seems to be higher and rounder than actual. It kind of helps in mimicking an almond shaped eye.
• I used dark matte shade – Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear to deepen the crease. I started with very light stroke. I make sure not to go beyond the area where my lower lash-line will connect to the tail of my eyebrow, if extended. If I go beyond that line, I feel like my eyes starts looking droopier!
• At this time, I can see how my crease is appearing. I often add a touch of a dark shadow like Makeup Geek Corrupt at the very outer corner. It provides more depth to the look, making it look more grounded! After the crease is done, I take a little bit of Crème Brulee in a clean brush and blend the edges for one last time.
• Yay, time for the shimmer shades now. First, I also used Make Up For Ever eyeshadow in Sapphire on the lid to lay down an even blue base. Colourpop definitely has the easiest shiny/glittery shades. I used Colourpop Super Shock Eyeshadow in Rex with my fingertips and pat it all over my lid evenly all the way to the inner corner. Rex is a beautiful blackened blue shade with loads of blue micro-glitters. I also make sure that this shade is taking a rounder shape than a flat shape near my crease-area. Sometimes because of my eye shape it can show up very flat which end up making my eyes look more hooded than they actually are. Also, at this stage, the distinction between the blue shimmer shade and the blending matte shades appears somewhat sharp. So, I get a matte blue shade and very lightly use it in that area to blend away that sharp distinction. I love using the blue shades from Viseart Dark Matte palette for this reason.

• Although Rex already have a lot of shimmer and glitter to it, I still want an extra layer of oomph! Urban Decay Heavy Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy has been a recent favorite. I have been using it nonstop ever since I got it. I apply a generous layer it on the lid over where I applied Rex. For this look, I preferred this glitter because it gives me the ability to have an even but sheer coat which means my blue lid is still going to show up very nicely. If I was to layer an actual glitter, the effect will not be like this.
• This look requires a thick winged liner. I used Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liner.
• A beautiful pair of false lashes is kind of a must have with this look, but I don’t know how to wear them and I am too lazy to learn…he he! I used a few heavy coats of Urban Decay Perversion Mascara with Marc Jacobs O!Mega Mascara.

For my sister’s wedding I wore a deep pink blush with a fuchsia lipstick. I know that pink is absolute no with blue shades but I wished I would have worn a bit more of the blush and lipstick in a deeper shade. Against 100s of high-intensity lights, colorful decoration and tremendously bright Indian wedding dresses, my blush and lipstick shades looked somewhat washed-off!

7 Days of Glitter with Arrru ::: Day 6 "Glitter Cut Crease & a Star"

These last 2 days in #7DaysofGlitterwithArrru series are very glittery, festive and perfect for New Year Eve! These two definitely are my most favorite out of the 7! Do come back for tomorrow’s look!

I have never tried cut-crease look before today. And to make things more complex, I added glitter with cut-crease. I was actually inspired by @heathervenere on Instagram and tried to replicate one of her looks. Everything went on smoothly; I was actually doing quite good till I finished the cut-crease portion of it. But when I added the glitter, it was not sharp and did not land right on the crease :-) I was either too hasty in my application or my focus was somewhere else. I could have removed it and re-do the glitter but I am too lazy! Plus, I had fun in spite of the mistake! And for me that is the most important aspect when I am doing my makeup! :-)

Step-by-step approach to the eye-look:

1. As always, MAC paint pot in Layin Low as primer.
2. Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Crème Brulee on the crease just to get an even canvas for the matte shades that will follow.
3. Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Cupcake with a very light hand, starting on the same area where I put Crème Brulee. I extend it significantly higher from my crease.
4. Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Morocco with a little bit of heavier hand on the same area as Cupcake. Using these many different shades ensures that there is a nice gradient of color from the crease towards the brows.
5. I take an angled eyebrow brush to use Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Cocoa Bear. I start with a light hand to draw the cut-crease line. This is basically where your eye-lid folds upwards.
6. I added a very light neutral-gold shade on the entire lid just with a light hand. I forgot which shade I used – I think something from the Urban Decay Naked palette.
7. Once I am done with this, I take a closer look and go in with a rounder brush with little bit Cocoa Bear and Morocco to blend upwards. The goal here is to achieve perfect blending above the crease line. But the line on the crease has to cut quite sharp! Hence the name cut-crease! I hope I am making sense. To get the line just a bit more sharper, I used Java from IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty palette I go over the cut-crease with that angled eyebrow brush I used before. I am going to put glitter over it anyway, so it is not an absolutely necessary step.
8. After this, I added the glitters. This is where I kind of messed up! :-) But anyway, this step was very easy in theory! I just needed to go over the cut-crease line with the Urban Decay Heavy Glitter liner. I could not maintain a steadfast hand and my glitter liner got a little messy! I hope your’s is way prettier than mine :-)
9. I used Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liner and Kat Von D Tattoo Liner to draw a nice, thick winged eyeliner.
10. Lakme Kajol Liner to tighline my upper and lower lash-line.
11. Used a little bit of Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Cocoa Bear under my lower lash-line.
12. I forgot to picture the mascaras here but I was probably using Urban Decay Perversion Mascara with Marc Jacobs O!Mega Mascara! Feel free to use false lashes, it will look really pretty!
13. The star under the lower lash line is a last minute addition. Obviously I got inspired by the makeup on Perrie Edwards Music Video.

7 Days of Glitter with Arrru ::: Day 5 "Simple & Sophisticated Glitter"

Today is Day 5 of my little series here on the blog. You can catch the previous looks here... Today’s look is extremely similar to the first look I posted here, in application. However, this glitter I used here is much more sophisticated and subtle! I absolutely love wearing this to any events where I do want look polished and glamorous but do not want to put on makeup that appears pure makeup-y!

I am using the shade “Penny Jar” from Olivia Palermo x Ciaté London The Smouldering Eye Palette (I have a detailed review here). I absolutely love this shade. I wear it to my office parties! The micro mini glitters in this shade are multi-color over a base color of taupe; it shines so beautifully under different lights, even under crappy office lights! Plus, it is a pressed powder eyeshadow, you don’t really need to deal with the hassle of working with loose glitters and glitter glue! I am sure you all have a pretty underrated shade like Penny Jar in your collection. Also, I was not able to capture the beauty of the glitter on the photos, it look way better in person!

Step-by-step approach to the eye-look:

1. For this look, I did not use too many eyeshadows. I used a little bit of Blondie on the crease and Amaretto on my outer V for helping the glitter shades to blend but Penny Jar is so beautiful and neutral it does not really need a lot of help from other matte shades. Anyway, I like to use my fingertips to pat the color on the lid. I need 2 to 3 layers to cover my entire lid. 
2. Because I was trying to make it more wearable I added a shorter wing for my liner. 
3. A generous coat of mascara on both my upper and lower and that’s all I needed to finish off my eye look!

For my office work party, I typically pair this with red lipstick but for this look I was itching to see how a deeper, vampire shade pairs with this glitter eyeshadow. I love the outcome :-) I know my skin appears a little bit dry here, I wished I had used Smashbox Primer Water before putting on my foundation.

7 Days of Glitter with Arrru ::: Day 4 "Glitter & Monochromatic Purple"

All looks in this mini-series till now have been relatively simple, so I decided to change things up a bit and present to you this monochromatic purple look that is way more fun! I love how it turned out!

When the idea of “7 Days of Glitter” hit me, I already had a few looks in my mind. But I did need to research for more inspiration. I found a lot of looks with glitter on the lower lash-line. It looked interesting and I thought I could replicate this! Also, I was trying to use up all the glitter products that I have in my possession and Makeup Geek pigment in Bewitched was the only one that I did not use yet. I was also itching to wear After Dark Revolution Lipstick from Urban Decay (I have a detailed review here); it is a gorgeous purple-plum shade and is one of my most favorite lipsticks. Because Bewitched and After Dark are different hades of purple, I decided to follow a monochromatic purple look for my makeup!

Step-by-step approach to the eye-look: I know it look a little bit difficult, but trust me, it is a very simple look to execute. This is how it goes -

1. Mac Painterly Paint Pot in Layin’ Low as the primer.
2. Light layer of Makeup Geek Crème Brulee on the crease. This is not at all a necessary step but I like to add this shadow to achieve perfect blending when I go in with a colored matte shadow.
3. Makeup Geek Fashion Addict on the crease. I love to use colors on my crease! This is essentially to create and deepen the eye-socket to give the illusion that I have rounder eyes :-)
4. Violet from IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty palette on my entire lid. It helps in creating that whole monochromatic vibe on my eye look.
5. I added just a touch of Iconic from the same palette on the outer corner.
6. This time, I went for a thick, quite heavy winged eyeliner with Stila Stay All Day waterproof liquid eyeliner. Winged eyeliner is definitely my weakness!
7. For this look, all the fun lies on the lower lash line. I applied a generous layer of Makeup Geek shimmer shadow Toxic on the lower lash-line. It will give me a purple base for my glitter.
8. I mixed Smashbox Primer Water with a bit of Bewitched glitter pigment from Makeup Geek to get a liquid consistency. I applied it over the purple eyeshadow on the lower lash line.
9. Once I was done with the Bewitched pigment, I strongly felt the need of more glitter! It is the holidays after all, hence I applied Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Midnight Cowboy over the bewitched pigment. This liner is very quickly becoming my holy grail eye-glitter.
10. Diow Show mascara to prime my lashes before going in with a heavy coating of Urban Decay Perversion Mascara on both my lower and upper lash line. I know it is way too much for day time wear but I love a little bit of glamour once in a while.
